(FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE)
TURNER MOTORSPORT SET FOR TEAM’S HOMECOMING DOUBLE-HEADER AT LIME ROCK PARK.
Amesbury, MA. -- July 16th, 2019 -- Turner Motorsport returns to their home track of Lime Rock Park in the wake of two impressive finishes in the previous two races at Watkins Glen International and Canadian Tire Motorsport Park.
The No. 96 BMW M6 GT3 captured a second-place podium and an impressive win in rounds five and six of the 2019 WeatherTech SportsCar Championship.
With the winning momentum, the focus turns to round seven of the WeatherTech Championship on the 1.51-mile 7-turn circuit in Northwestern Connecticut for the Northeast Grand Prix as well as the Michelin Pilot Challenge Lime Rock 120.
Drivers Bill Auberlen and Robby Foley will share both the GTD class BMW M6 GT3 as well as the GS class BMW M4 GT4 in a double header race day on Saturday.
“This is a big weekend for us in front of all our closest family, friends and fans,” said Will Turner. “We are fielding both the M4 GT4 in the GS class as well as the full time GTD class M6 GT3 so its going to be an extremely busy couple days with two races back to back on Saturday. It’s going to be fun to run both classes in front of our home crowd, it’s been years since we have done both the GS and GT classes here.”
Turner success at Lime Rock has been consistent over the years with the most recent class wins in ’06, ’09, ’10, ’15 and ’17 as well as a podium in 2011.
Bill Auberlen and Turner Motorsport captured their first win together at Lime Rock Park in 2001 starting from the back of the field in an incredibly wet rain race. Eighteen years later, Auberlen returns to Lime Rock Park with Turner Motorsport with just one win to go to tie the North American sports car record.
“It’s always exciting working with the Turner team, they are such a great group” said Bill Auberlen. “We have had a ton of success over the years so it’s no surprise we have some momentum going into Lime Rock with a couple strong finishes under our belts. It seems luck is going our way a little bit so we’re looking forward to put together a couple solid races this weekend.”
With the streak of bad luck seemingly behind them, the driver duo of Auberlen and Foley focus on the big picture championship. The duo sits only 28 points from the GTD points leader and 19 points from second place in the Championship points standings.
“Everyone has been so focused on success this entire season so it’s a relief to see all the hard work pay off recently,” said Robby Foley. “It feels like we have really hit our stride as a team and things are starting to click. We certainly have our work cut out for us but it’s exciting to be back in the mix for the Championship.”
On track action will begin on Friday with the Michelin Pilot Challenge Practice followed by the WeatherTech Championship Practice. Qualifying for the Michelin Pilot Challenge GS class will be on Friday beginning at 4:25pm ET and GTD qualifying will go green at 9:35am ET on Saturday covered LIVE on IMSA.com.
The two-hour Lime Rock 120 for the Michelin Pilot Challenge will go green at 10:20am ET on Saturday followed by the two-hour and forty-minute WeatherTech Championship Northeast Grand Prix at 3:10pm ET. Both races are available LIVE streaming on IMSA.tv.
The Northeast Grand Prix will also be televised on NBC Sports Network at 9:30pm ET.
