TURNER BMW CONTINUES PODIUM STREAK IN FRONT OF HOME CROWD AT LIME ROCK PARK.
Amesbury, MA. -- July 20th, 2019 -- Bill Auberlen and Robby Foley battled the extreme heat and humidity to clinch their third podium in a row on the historic 1.5-mile 7-corner Lime Rock Park for the Northeast Grand Prix.
The third place finish comes after a streak of recent success for the Turner Motorsport team with a second place finish at Watkins Glen and a dominant win at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park.
Robby Foley put together a strong effort to qualify in fourth position to start the two-hour and forty-five minute race from the second row to battle inside the top five for much of his fifty minute stint before handing the car over to Auberlen.
Auberlen continued on to push the BMW M6 GT3 to the limit in an effort to hold off several hard charging GTD competitors to run in the top five for much of his first stint.
Following the final stop, Auberlen pushed on eventually making a pass to clinch the third position to take the checkered flag.
“We worked hard for this one today,” said Bill Auberlen. “We had a good car all weekend but the competition was strong so I am glad everything came together at the end to continue our recent streak of podiums. The Turner guys have just been so good all season long so it feels so nice to finally see some results!”
The recent podium streak has allowed the No. 96 Turner BMW to fight their way up to second place in the WeatherTech SportsCar Championship.
"The last three weeks has been amazing,” said Robby Foley. “The Turner team and BMW has been so consistent all season long so I couldn’t be happier that we are starting to see the results. Today was a special race in front of the home crowd with family and friends so it makes the third place finish all the more enjoyable."
"Plus, with all the history with Turner and Bill (Auberlen) here, it really makes it a cool thing to be a part of. Bill (Auberlen) put together an insane double-stint in the heat to dig real deep and get that podium."
With round six of the 2019 WeatherTech Championship in the books, the Turner Motorsport team turns focus to the next round at Road America in just two weeks.
As part of the double-header race day at Lime Rock, Auberlen and Foley finished tenth in the Lime Rock 120 of the Michelin Pilot Challenge.
"It feels great to pull of a podium finish at our home track,” said Will Turner. “I have to give our entire team a lot of credit, especially Bill and Robby for pulling off a double-header race day in such intense conditions. Very proud of everyone for their efforts and really looking forward to continuing this success at Road America."
