TURNER BMW PREPARED FOR SECOND OF FOUR RACES IN BLANCPAIN GT WORLD CHALLENGE AMERICA.
Amesbury, MA. -- August 30th, 2019 -- The Turner Motorsport BMW M6 GT3 of Naoto Takeda and Takuya Shirasaka returns to the SRO America Blancpain GT World Challenge America for their second race of four scheduled for the 2019 season.
This weekend, Takeda and Shirasaka will make their racing debut at Watkins Glen International on the 3.4-mile 11-corner historic race circuit in New York. The duo tested with Turner Motorsport back in 2018 and are set to return in the No. 96 BMW M6 GT3 this weekend.
The Blancpain GT America efforts in addition to the full schedule of the IMSA GTD class and select races in the GS class of the Michelin Pilot Challenge have made a very busy race schedule for the blue and yellow BMWs this summer.
Takeda and Shirasaka return to the blue and yellow BMW for the first time since their impressive weekend at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park in May. The duo clinched two podium results in their first two North American races of 2019.
The GT field will consist of seventeen entries including one other BMW M6 GT3 which will mark the first time Turner Motorsport has competed against another BMW M6 GT3 fielded by another team. The field will also include Porsche, Ferrari, Acura, Bentley and Mercedes.
“It’s great we get to return to Watkins Glen again for the second time this year for GT racing,” said Will Turner. “Takuya and Naoto had a great start to their four race series up at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park so we hope they can continue the success into Watkins Glen. The tracks are both very high speed and suit the M6 GT3 well.”
Turner Motorsport has had recent success at Watkins Glen International in their GTD-class BMW with a second place finish earlier this season in June.
“We are looking forward to returning to Watkins Glen in the Turner BMW,” said Naoto Takeda. “We first drove the BMW M6 GT3 on this track last year and really enjoyed it so coming back to race should be a lot of fun.”
“Our weekend went very well at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park back in May so we hope we can find similar success here against a strong GT field.”
Over 100 cars will be competing over the weekend in SRO’s three series – Blancpain GT World Challenge America, Pirelli GT4 America and TC America.
On-track action for the Blancpain GT World Challenge begins Friday, August 30 at 12 noon EST for the first Blancpain GT World Challenge practice of the weekend. Round 9’s 90-minute contest is scheduled to go green at 3:10 pm on Saturday, August 31, while Round 10 is scheduled to start at 3:15 pm EST Sunday, September 1.
Races and qualifying will be streamed live on gt-world-challenge-america.com, with Sunday's contest live on CBS Sports Network, September 1 starting at 3pm EDT.
