SECOND PLACE FINISH FOR TAKEDA AND SHIRASAKA AT WATKINS GLEN.
Amesbury, MA. -- September 3rd, 2019 -- The Turner Motorsport BMW M6 GT3 of Naoto Takeda and Takuya Shirasaka claimed a second place finish round nine of the SRO America Blancpain GT World Challenge America.
Takeda and Shirasaka made their racing debut on the 3.4-mile 11-corner Watkins Glen International this past weekend behind the wheel of the No. 96 blue and yellow Turner BMW after a successful test in 2018.
This impressive second place finish in the AM class comes after the duo clinched a podium result earlier this season at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park. This weekend’s result marks the duo’s third successful race weekend in North America.
Takeda and Shirasaka battled against seventeen GT entries including cars from manufacturers like Porsche, Ferrari, Acura, Bentley and Mercedes.
“This weekend was another success in the BMW with Turner Motorsport,” said Takuya Shirasaka. “Our car was very strong on the high speed corners of Watkins Glen which made us very competitive all weekend.”
Will Turner added, “Both Takuya and Naoto did a fantastic job. This was their first time racing at Watkins Glen which can be a very challenging and intimidating track but much like the other races they have done in North America, they came up to speed quickly and did very well. We are looking forward to the next one at Road America.”
The Turner Motorsport team recorded a second place finish at Watkins Glen International earlier this year in the Sahlen’s Six Hours.
The team now prepares for the next round of the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship at Laguna Seca and the next round of the SRO America Blancpain GT World Challenge at Road America.
Rounds 11 and 12 of the Pirelli Blancpain GT World Challenge America at Road America are September 20-22nd.
