(FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE)
TURNER BMW PREPARED FOR SECOND OF FOUR RACES IN BLANCPAIN GT WORLD CHALLENGE AMERICA.
Amesbury, MA. -- September 20th, 2019 -- The Turner Motorsport BMW M6 GT3 of Naoto Takeda and Takuya Shirasaka prepares for rounds eleven and twelve of the SRO America Blancpain GT World Challenge America for their third race of four scheduled for the 2019 season.
This weekend, Takeda and Shirasaka will make yet another North American racing debut on the 4.048-mile 14-turn “National Park of Speed” in Elkhart Lake, Wisconsin. The driver pair tested at Road America to familiarize themselves with the super high speed and flowing course.
Takeda and Shirasaka return to the blue and yellow BMW after their impressive race weekends at Watkins Glen and Canadian Tire Motorsport Park in May. The duo clinched two podium results in their first two North American races of 2019.
The SRO America GT field will consist of sixteen entries this weekend including two BMW M6 GT3s.
“We are looking forward to getting back to the SRO America competition with a good size GT3 field,” said Will Turner. “It’s great that we are able to come back to these iconic North American tracks twice this season, once with IMSA and again with SRO America GT World Challenge. We are fortunate to have multiple programs to keep us busy this season, big thanks to my crew for all the hard work.”
Turner Motorsport has had recent success at Road America in their GTD-class BMW with a third place finish earlier this season in August to mark their fourth consecutive podium with drivers Robby Foley and Bill Aublerlen.
“It is exciting to be back again in the United States to go racing at such historic tracks like Road America,” said Naoto Takeda. “First we raced at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park and then Watkins Glen and now here, these are some very high speed, exciting and fun tracks to race in the Turner BMW.”
“Road America is a super fast and challenging track so we look forward to racing here this weekend with the SRO America GT World Challenge,” said Takuya Shirasaka. There is a big field out there so hopefully we can improve on our success in the races earlier this season.”
On-track action for Blancpain GT World Challenge America competitors begins Friday, September 20 at 11:45 Central for the first practice session of the weekend. Qualifying for both weekend races starts at 9:50 am Central Saturday, September 21, while Round 11’s 90-minute contest is scheduled to go green later that day at 2:10 pm Central. Round 12 is scheduled to start at 2:15 pm Central Sunday, September 22.
Races and qualifying will be streamed live on gt-world-challenge-america.com, with Sunday's contest live on CBS Sports Network.
