TURNER BMWs GET BACK TO WORK AFTER SUCCESSFUL WEEKEND AT SEBRING
Amesbury, MA. -- July 30th, 2020-- Turner Motorsport looks to resume racing action for the 2020 IMSA SportsCar Weekend at Road America this weekend following a successful podium finish at Sebring International Raceway just two weeks ago.
Bill Auberlen and Robby Foley captured a third-place finish in the inaugural Cadillac Grand Prix of Sebring after Foley qualified the #96 Turner BMW M6 in the third position. Foley took the green flag and quickly found himself leading the GTD field after a round of fast pit stops by the Turner crew.
Foley’s lead was short lived after the BOP overachievers of the GTD class got past him before handing the car over to Auberlen. Auberlen fought his way back up to second place with another quick pit stop by the Turner crew to ultimately finish third.
In the IMSA Michelin Pilot Challenge GS race Auberlen and Foley, driving the #95 BMW M4GT4, finished fifth in GS. The duo ran as high as second place before the red flag came out for threatening weather but after pit cycles the team was not able to gain positions to get back up front before the checkered.
For this weekend at Road America, Auberlen and Foley will team up as usual behind the red, white, and blue LIQUI Moly BMW M6 GT3 to square off against a newly BOP adjusted field of GTD entries. Both Lexus and Ferrari received much needed power reductions, while the entire field gained fuel capacity to ensure the race, unlike the previous races, can be a two pit stop race.
Turner’s Michelin Pilot Challenge M4GT4’s will also get back to action this weekend with Foley appearing in both GS entries in addition to his primary role and focus in the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship GTD class. Foley will be joined once again by his co-drivers Bill Auberlen and Vin Barletta for this weekend’s Road America 120.
In both GS and GTD, Turner BMWs have a history of success on the 4-mile, 14-corner National Park of Speed. The No. 96 BMW M6 entry has recorded a third place, fifth place and first place finish in the last three appearances.
“It’s hard to believe it’s already August and we are headed to Road America,” said Will Turner. “Sebring was a solid showing for our team which I think we can build off for round 3 this weekend. We have a history of success here so we will see how things play out with the recently updated Balance of Performance.”
How to Watch : The Road America GS race will be streamed live on NBC’s TrackPass on Saturday August 1st at 3:45pm. The IMSA GTD race will be live on NBC , Sunday at 12:00pm ET.
