Turner Motorsport’s Fast Facts for the Charlotte ROVAL

Amesbury, MA. – October 8th, 2020--
With only four races left in the 2020 IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship, the seven-time championship winning Turner Motorsport BMW team returns to the track this weekend, (albeit a new circuit on the series calendar) to try to improve their current 5th place position in the GTD season long championship.

The #96 Liqui Moly / H&R Springs / BMW M6 GT3 – will compete in the GT-only 100-minute sprint race under the lights at Charlotte Motor Speedway ROVAL on Saturday Night, October 10. The GS team gets the weekend off – to get ready for Road Atlanta where they will join GTD next week.

While excited to race at a new (to IMSA) venue, the Turner team and drivers have reservations and concerns about the ROVAL at Charlotte and how the GTD machinery will fare. At a recent test day at the ROVAL, Turner Motorsport BMW drivers Bill Auberlen and Robby Foley noted the lack of passing zones and how low percentage passes will undoubtedly result in lots of carnage. Normally race parts suppliers would rejoice in a track proving to be this challenging and taxing on the cars, but with the 10-hour endurance race at Petit Le Mans starting only a few days after this race, rebuilding and parts availability will be near impossible.

“Qualifying is going to be super important," mentioned rookie sensation Robby Foley. “With this race being only 100 minutes long and the track being super tough to pass at...I am going to have to dig deep for to start up front."

Sharing Robby's sentiments, Bill Auberlen - Mr. 61, said, "I have raced here before but the track configuration was different, Like Robby says, it's a tough place to pass so track position is going to be super important - I am hoping team strategist Don Salama has some tricks up his sleeve to get us up front."
