Turner Motorsport Ready for IMSA Mid-Ohio Weekend with Blue and Yellow Evolution Livery on BMW M6 GT3
Auberlen and Machavern Looking to Extend Lead in IMPC Grand Sport Standings in BMW M4 GT4
Amesbury, Mass. – May 14, 2021 ---
The third rounds of the 2021 IMSA WeatherTech and Michelin Pilot Challenge series will see Turner Motorsport at the Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course, in Lexington, Ohio, this weekend looking to continue the team’s excellent start to the season. The only noticeable change to the winning combinations will be a new, but classic livery on the No. 96 BMW M6 GT3.
“For Mid-Ohio and the two weekends following we will return the No. 96 M6 GT3 to the classic blue and yellow Turner livery – with a bit of a camouflaged evolution - its pretty cool,” said Will Turner, Team Principal. “I am sure our fans will like it. The white, blue, and red Liqui-Moly-themed livery will return later in the season. Regardless of the livery, the Liqui-Moly logo will always have a prominent position of the front of our BMW.”
In the first two rounds of the WeatherTech season, drivers Bill Auberlen, Robby Foley and Aiden Read have a pair of top-10 finishes (Daytona – P6, Sebring – P8) in the No. 96 BMW M6 GT3. Season-long pilots Auberlen and Foley are looking to the inherent capabilities of the BMW M6 at Mid-Ohio to move them up in the standings and score their first victory of the 2021 season. Last year, the duo scored two wins (VIR, Charlotte) to give Auberlen the lead in all-time IMSA victories (63).
Many commercials may have to add a “past results are not indicative of future performance” disclaimer, but that does not really apply to Bill Auberlen. The driver with the most wins in IMSA history is also the series’ active driver with the most success at Mid-Ohio. The 52-year-old ace has totaled two Pilot Challenge wins (2005, 2006) and four WeatherTech GT class victories (2004, 2010, 2012, 2013) at the 2.258-mile, 13-turn natural terrain circuit. Bill Auberlen is as strong at Mid-Ohio as he is behind the wheel of a BMW.
In Michelin Pilot competition, Bill Auberlen and Dillon Machavern have raced the No. 95 BMW M4 GT4 to consecutive podium finishes (P2 – Daytona, P3 – Sebring) in the first two rounds this season and stand first in Grand Sport driver points standings. Vin Barletta and Robby Foley stand third in driver points following third and seventh place results in the No. 96 BMW M4 GT4. Turner Motorsport leads the team standings and has raced BMW to second place in the Manufacturer points.
The Pilot Challenge schedule this weekend shows a pair of Friday practices (9:15 a.m. and 1:15 p.m. ET) ahead of qualifying at 5:50 p.m. Live race coverage starts at 3:30 p.m. Saturday on TrackPass on NBC Sports Gold and IMSA Radio. The WeatherTech Championship takes to Mid-Ohio for this year’s Acura Sports Car Challenge Presented by the TLX Type S from May 14-16. The race airs live at 2:30 p.m. ET Sunday, May 16 on NBCSN and IMSA Radio (XM 392, SiriusXM Online 992).
