(FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE)
Lightening Strikes Fifth For Turner Motorsport At Lime Rock Park.
Newton, NH. – July 18, 2021 ---
The second half of the Michelin Pilot Challenge (IMPC) and WeatherTech SportsCar (IWSC) championships began at Lime Rock Park, in Lakeville, Conn., on Saturday, July 17 with a less than satisfying outcome for Turner Motorsport after lightening in the area resulted a red-flagged Northeast Grand Prix.
GT Daytona
Bill Auberlen, Robby Foley, and the No. 96 TACOS BMW M6 GT3 lined up from the seventh starting position for the two-hour-and-forty-minute Northeast Grand Prix. Ultimately, the race turned out to be the one-hour-and-thirty-minute Northeast Grand Prix as severe weather and lightening strikes in the Lakeville area halted the race. Fifth place at the red flag and no restart meant fifth place points and a drop to second in driver points.
Grand Sport
Auberlen and Dillon Machavern now share the lead in IMPC Grand Sport driver points despite a disappointing 16th place finish in the Lime Rock Park 120 in the No. 95 BMW M4 GT4. A mechanical issue six laps from the end of the two-hour contest saw the car off track and out of a top-10 finish that would have seen the pair retain sole possession of the points lead. Vin Barletta and Robby Foley finished eighth in the No. 96 BMW M4 GT4 to score their sixth consecutive top-10 result of the season.
Will Turner – “This weekend leaves me thinking about what could have been, but that’s balanced by the fact that we are still tied for the Grand Sport points lead and second in GT Daytona standings. I will not count this one as one of my top-10, but, really, every weekend we are racing is still a good weekend. It was great to see all the Turner fans that showed up to support us, you guys and girls are the best ! ”
Turner Motorsport returns to action Aug. 6-8 at Road America in Elkhart Lake, Wisconsin, with the IMSA SportsCar Weekend.
