Turner Motorsport Leaves Laguna Seca Still Leading GTD and GS Points.

Sept. 14, 2021 – Newton, NH ---

Turner Motorsport’s weekend at Laguna Seca was a mixture of good and not as good mixed with a bit of unfortunately, but fortunately. The headline? Turner Motorsport BMWs retained the points lead in both the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship (IWSC) GT Daytona and IMSA Michelin Pilot Challenge (IMPC) Grand Sport classes.

Despite leading more than half of the IWSC race’s two-hour-and-forty-minute length the No. 96 Liqui-Moly BMW M6 GT3 ultimately finished fourth in the GT Daytona class. Both Robby Foley and Bill Auberlen had their turn at the front of the 11-car class, but at the checkered flag and 107 laps around the 2.238-mile, 11-turn circuit they had faded to finish some 20 seconds behind the winning Porsche. It was not their day, but the top-five finish increased the duo’s lead to 27 markers in the Driver’s Championship as well keep as Turner at the top of the Team Championship.

In the IMSA Michelin Pilot Challenge Championship, the two-hour race ended with Foley and Vin Barletta finishing sixth in the No. 96 BMW M4 GT4. Auberlen and Dillon Machavern ended up 14th in the No. 95 BMW M4 GT4 after a cut tire forced Auberlen to the pits for new Michelins with 38 minutes left in the contest. So, as our story goes – Unfortunately, 6th and 14th place finishes. Fortunately, Auberlen and Machavern keep the lead in GS class points with Foley and Barletta holding onto second place.

Will Turner – “Although the goal is always to win, as the season winds down and we focus on the championships, we have to finish in front of the cars who are closest to us in points. We did that to a good degree this weekend and, most importantly, kept a Turner BMW in the championship lead"

Auberlen and Foley will be back behind the wheel of the No. 96 Liqui-Moly BMW M6 GT3 at the Grand Prix of Long Beach on Sept. 25. The 100-minute race will be broadcast on NBCSN beginning at 5:00 p.m. ET. The IMSA Michelin Pilot Challenge returns at Virginia International Raceway on the weekend of Oct. 8 – 10.
