Turner Motorsport Returns to the Scene of the Sweep
VIR To host Penultimate Weekend of 2021 IMSA Season
Oct.6, 2021 – Newton, NH ---
One year ago the Michelin GT Challenge At VIR weekend was a clean sweep for the Turner Motorsport BMWs with victories in both IMSA GT Daytona and IMPC Grand Sport (GS) classes. A double-podium result in GS meant every Turner driver held up at least one trophy. Bill Auberlen scored his 61st win in IMSA competition and his 17th in IMPC; Robby Foley juggled three trophies – a GT Daytona and GS win with Auberlen and third in GS that he shared with Vin Barletta. All-in-all, quite a weekend.
This season the team arrives at Virginia International Raceway with Auberlen and Foley, and the No. 96 Liqui-Moly BMW M6 GT3, standing, fourth in GT Daytona points. In Michelin Pilot Challenge standings, Auberlen and Dillon Machavern, in the No. 95 BMW M4 GT4, lead GS points by 20 markers over teammates Foley and Barletta, in the No. 96 BMW M4 GT4.
Will Turner – “I can’t help but smile when I think of VIR. Last season’s races were pretty special. We won everything that weekend and it was especially pleasing to be the BMW team that drove Bill to his record-setting 61st IMSA victory. Our GT Daytona race at Long Beach was miserable (16th place finish) so we’ll be looking for some VIR magic again. In IMPC, it’s all Turner BMWs at the top and we plan to keep it that way.. Although the competition is tough , I know it won’t be easy”

Michelin GT Challenge At VIR action begins with practice and qualifying on Friday, Oct. 8. The two-hour, 40-minute race airs live at noon ET Saturday, Oct. 9 on NBC. The Virginia Is For Racing Lovers Grand Prix takes the green flag at 2:10 p.m. ET Sunday, Oct. 10. The race will be streamed live on NBC Sports Gold Trackpass.
