Turner Motorsport was hoping to keep the double-podium momentum from Watkins Glen going at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park this weekend, but the BMW M4 GT3 that finished third in the Sahlen’s Six Hour last weekend was a little out of shape in Canada. A Balance of Performance adjustment after the Glen had the car carrying an extra 20 kilograms (44 pounds) of weight and, as most anyone will tell you, weight gain is not a good look.
Bill Auberlen, Robby Foley, and the No. 96 BMW M4 GT3 struggled with pace during Sunday’s two-hour-and-forty-minute Chevrolet Grand Prix, but persevered to finish fourth and retain second place in the IMSA Sprint race points.
Bill Auberlen, “Our objective was to finish ahead of Madison and Bryan in the No. 1 BMW to move up on them in the Sprint points. We did that, but we were all far from a podium finish.”
Robby Foley, “We struggled all weekend. Fourth place closes the gap in Sprint points a little to the No. 1 car, but we have work to do before Lime Rock.”
On Saturday, Vin Barletta and Robby Foley raced the No. 96 BMW M4 GT4 to an 8th place finish in the Michelin Pilot Challenge Canadian Tire Motorsport Park 120. The No. 95 Turner Motorsport BMW M4 GT4 of Bill Auberlen and Dillon Machavern, winners last weekend at Glen, was damaged in the day’s earlier qualifying session and was unable to make the race.
“CTMP is a circuit that rewards testing,” said Will Turner. “Because of the pandemic we have not been here in three years. We are happy to be back, but different circumstances would have been better for us. We were strong at The Glen, but this weekend was a struggle. We have a little time before Lime Rock and we have work to do. All the cars in the class are close – often within a tenth or two per lap. Right now we are on the slow side of those tenths and, especially at a track like Lime Rock; we need to be on the faster side of that small difference.”
The second half of the 2022 IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship continues on Saturday, July 16th at the FCP Euro Northeast Grand Prix, at Lime Rock Park, in Lakeville, Conn. The two-hour Lime Rock Park 120 takes the green flag at 11:05 a.m. The two-hour-and-forty-minute Northeast Grand Prix is scheduled to start at 3:05 p.m. and will be broadcast on USA beginning at 5 p.m. ET. IMSA Radio also provides a flag-to-flag broadcast.
