Turner Motorsport finished up the 2022 racing season with a very strong final two weekends. A win in Friday’s IMPC race and a third-place GT Daytona finish in Saturday’s Petit Le Mans tied up the 2022 IMSA series very nicely. One week later, at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway, a victory in the SRO GT World Challenge America class. Next season is right around the corner, but before those plans are announced let’s review a great 2022.
IMSA WeatherTech GTD
One of only two BMW M4 GT3 racing cars in the 2022 IMSA GTD class, the No. 96 LIQUI-MOLY BMW of Bill Auberlen and Robby Foley (ably assisted by Michael Dinan in the four endurance races), helped BMW to the GTD class Manufacturer’s title in both WeatherTech and Sprint championships. Auberlen and Foley finished fourth in WeatherTech driver points and fifth in Sprint driver points, the duo sharing a victory at Mid-Ohio and the trio closing the season with a fine third place finish at Petit Le Mans.
IMSA Michelin Pilot Challenge
Turner Motorsport closed out the 2022 IMSA Michelin Pilot Challenge season with a win in the two-hour IMPC opening act of the Petit Le Mans weekend with the No. 95 BMW M4 GT4, driven by Bill Auberlen and Dillon Machavern. It was the last race for the current model BMW M4 GT4 racing car and the second victory of the season for the strong pair moved them to finish third place finish in the Grand Sport (GS) driver point standings.
GT World Challenge America
Just one week after Petit Le Mans the Turner Motorsport team was at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway for the SRO Indy 8 Hour race to close the 2022 SRO GT World Challenge America season with their other BMW M4 GT3 – the other No. 96 LIQUI-MOLY BMW M4 GT3. Michael Dinan and Robby Foley were joined by BMW driver John Edwards as the third driver. Turner Motorsport ended the first season for the BMW M4 GT3 with the GT America win !
Will Turner – “We’ve been professionally racing with BMW for 25 years now and 2022 was another great year. We did not add to the 7 Championships already earned in past seasons, but all three programs are winning ones. The first year for any new racing car is challenging and the BMW M4 GT3 was no different. We raced the car in both the IMSA and SRO series and I am proud to say we earned victories in both championships. I’d like to say thank you to BMW, LIQUI-MOLY, and all of our sponsor partners. Plans are coming together for 2023. I don’t think it will surprise anyone that we will be racing BMWs. Stay tuned.”
