This competition intercooler kit utilizes a tube fin center core unit, for cooler temperatures and less pressure drop. This is for ideal for owners who are going to install a tuner, build a competition car or operate in hot climates. This can be used on the street, track, and for an everyday driving and will allow cooler temps and more air flow through the core!
One of the key features of this kit is that it's a direct bolt-on replacement for your stock intercooler. This means no removing the bumper or modifying brackets or wrestling with plumbing. AC Schnitzer has engineered their end-tanks in aluminum to replace the factory plastic, which is more durable long-term. The CAD and FEM process also allows them to design the internals free if any restrictions. This is a truly outstanding all-around intercooler upgrade!

This Blow Off, or Dump valve, is for the BMW N20 2.0 Turbo engines that have the electronically controlled bypass valve. It is recommended for any vehicle where the boost pressure has been increased by an ECU software upgrade and for unmodified vehicles operating in warmer climates, as a solution to the many failures that have occurred, where the original rubber diaphragm splits, which causes a loss of boost pressure. Unfortunately the failure doesn’t always result in a check engine light as the valve can still be blown open by the boost pressure, so you may not be aware that you are losing power due to this.
Our alternative is a fully engineered solution offering significantly improved reliability. Our valve is piston based with no diaphragm to fail, and of all aluminium construction. It replaces the original unit with a pressure/vacuum operated piston valve that still also retains the desirable OEM ECU control over valve actuation.

The stock valve on the N55 is prone to failure - the plastic often cracks, causing the valve to stop functioning altogether.
This Forge valve unit is engineered with a piston, eliminating the diaphragm entirely. Additionally, the Valve is all aluminum - this is the solution to any failures associated with the OEM valve, making your N55 significantly more reliable. This unit retains the OEM ECU controlled valve actuation as well. Includes a plug and play harness that works with the OEM harness.
Turner Motorsport advises being cautious when removing the OEM recirculating valve; if the plastic is cracked, pieces could fall into the turbo upon removal causing serious damage.

When adding boost to the N54 engine, it's important to consider effects throughout the rest of the system. Additional boost can overwhelm the stock BMW diverter valve system and lead to boost leakage, or boost spikes, and lost horsepower. With the factory components in place it's hard to maintain consistently high boost levels. Instead of the weak plastic components of the stock system, Active Autowerke uses a CNC-machined and mandrel-bent aluminum tube with a Venturi blow-off valve in place of the original diverter valves. The blow-off valve dumps overboost into the atmosphere for that distinctive turbo 'whoosh' sound. The single AA BOV is over-sized for the N54 application - taking the place of the two small diverter valves, and verified to handle over 600hp. With the BOV acting properly your turbos and other components are protected from compressor surge caused by excess pressure build-up.
We like the Active BOV better than other forms of diverter and BOV kits because it's tried and true - AA was the original turbo BMW tuners and their experience is second to none. That's why they took the time to engineer their kit to fit perfectly, using the OE-type connector to the throttle body, and high-strength silicone to the lower intercooler tube. Each connection is a tight, leak-free seal. The kit comes complete with the discharge tube, vacuum plugs for the stock hoses, and instructions. The tube is powdercoated in black and with a wrinkle finish for an OE appearance.

Synchronic BOV package SB001 is the iconic Synchronic BOV that has set the standard for impossibly fast response from a BOV/DV.
Completely modular, it can be installed as a vent-to-atmosphere BOV or re-circulating diverter valve. This universal package can be outfitted to most any application utilizing our interchangeable mounting flange system. By design, it is a pull-type valve only. This means that boost pressure keeps it closed, meaning no boost leaks upwards of 100+ psi of boost. It operates in a normally open condition. This means that it is designed to remain open under vacuum conditions. For maximum performance and reliability, it is recommended to install the Synchronic BOV in a re-circulated configuration with the discharge between the MAF sensor and turbocharger inlet.


Forge Motorsport presents their newest diverter valve, designed specifically BMW's N54 engine. Starting with their own 007P piston-based design, Forge designed an entirely new valve body to retain BMW’s unique connection mechanism.
This diverter valve is fully tunable for both boost-holding capacity and response using Forge's proprietary interchangeable springs and shims - this approach to valve tuning retains optimal piston travel and flow volume, regardless of spring rate. F22, F3X Dinan Performance Dual Core Intercoolers

When modifying the car and increasing boost, installing an upgraded intercooler is essential to keep the engine computer from restraining boost as temperatures climb. The stock air-air intercooler is quickly overcome with heat and can't keep the intake air cool enough. If it's too hot the engine computer will reduce power to safer levels. CP-E designed an intercooler upgrade from scratch and backed up with sound engineering and scientific data collection. Their IC kit was developed on their dyno with a data logging system using eight temperature and pressure sensors to accurately gauge the performance of the stock intercooler and come up with a game plan on improving upon it. They found the stock system worked adequately for the stock boost levels but was quickly overwhelmed when the engine was modified for more boost (heat). There are two important metrics when assessing the performance of an intercooler: efficiency (how well does the IC extract heat from the intake air) and pressure loss (how much boost pressure is lost from passing through the IC). CP-E measured 64% efficiency with over 3 bar of lost pressure at 6,300 RPM with the stock IC.
The typical plan for a better intercooler is to use the biggest core that will fit within the bodywork. While scoring good efficiency numbers the larger surface area will have greater pressure loss. It's the hidden catch to the "bigger is better" intercooler kits on the market. The best IC kits will walk a fine line on thermal efficiency from more surface area with preserving the boost output from the turbos. If you can retain as much of the turbo boost as possible you will ultimately put out more power (you can do as much or more with less). CP-E engineered their FMIC kit along these principles and the results are very impressive for such a compact design.
Their new IC design proved to be superior when they measured 84% efficiency and less than 2 bar of pressure loss at 6,300 RPM! That's a 20% improvement in efficiency and over a pound of pressure gained back over the stock intercooler! While the stock IC decreased intake air temp by 120 degrees, the CP-E IC dropped it by nearly 180 degrees. The CP-E IC has a distinct advantage over the stock IC at all RPM but especially so after 4,500 RPM where the stock unit just can't withstand the heat and its performance quickly plummets. The CP-E IC is much more stable across the RPM band. On the dyno, the 335i with the CP-E IC put down almost 20whp more than the stock IC setup. This N54 intercooler kit really delivers as promised.
The CP-E N54 FMIC is made from a bar and plate design with a core measuring 21"x5.5"x6.0". The end tanks are CAD designed for optimized flow and then cast in aluminum. The factory oil cooler is relocated above the intercooler for better airflow. New silicone and aluminum inlet and outlet pipes with clamps are included. For the E60 535 the installation is straightforward but will require permanent cutting of plastic shrouds to get a perfect fit.

This aluminum pipe is much stronger and more durable and nearly indestructable for the N55 application. It uses a CNC-machined factory-style connection and o-ring to the throttle body to ensure a tight and leak-free seal. The piping is a consistent 3" diameter for better flow and an improved throttle response. AA has included a raised boss with two ports should you choose to add a water/meth injection system later. The factory MAP sensor installs in the same location and the pipe is powdercoated black for a factory-type appearance.
With a stronger pipe you don't have to worry about the infamous chargepipe crack and lost boost levels and horsepower. All of the boost in the world is useless if it's leaking so using beefed up components in place of the weak factory pieces is the smart way to consistently high power output.

It is recommended for any vehicle where the boost pressure has been increased by an ECU software upgrade and for unmodified vehicles operating in warmer climates, as a solution to the many failures that have occurred, where the original rubber diaphragm splits, which causes a loss of boost pressure. Unfortunately the failure doesn’t always result in a check engine light as the valve can still be blown open by the boost pressure, so you may not be aware that you are losing power due to this.
Our alternative is a fully engineered solution offering significantly improved reliability. Our valve is piston based with no diaphragm to fail, and of all aluminium construction. The Cobb Front Mount Intercooler (FMIC) uses an innovative stepped design to maximize the available space in the nose without major modifications for installation. With 60% more surface area than the stock intercooler, the Cobb FMIC delivers much lower intake air temps for more consistent and useable horsepower. And special software is already available direct from Cobb to work with their FMIC via the Cobb Accessport programmer.
Heatsoak is one of the obstacles for making big power from turbobocharged engines. The stock intercooler design is commendable for single runs at the stock boost levels. But adding any more boost and the system is quickly overwhelmed. As the ECU corrects for heat soak you will be losing power, which makes your upgrades worthless. To help maintain boost levels even in the face of elevated turbocharger temperatures, a more efficient intercooler is required.
The Cobb design incorporates a thicker cooler with a super-sized 5.75" thick core. Total core dimensions are 21"x7.5"x5.75". Then they added another cooler on top for additional surface area. This stepped design uses all of the limited nose area of the E82, E90, and E92 body styles. Cast aluminum end tanks are specially formed to optimize flow (another obstacle for efficiency). Only minor modifications are required for installation and new silicone hoses and clamps are included. Unlike other kits, this intercooler is a direct replacement for N54 and N55 cars.

All of the tuning in the world is only as good as the weakest link. More boost in your 135/335 is great! But you will soon learn that some of the factory hardware is not up to the task of handling that extra pressure. One of the first things to fail and cause a boost leak are the factory boost diverter valves. This allows boost to "leak" out of the intake stream and a loss of power from the engine. This ECS Tuning chargepipe upgrade includes a blow-off valve in place of the factory diverter valves. The BOV is higher quality than the diverter valves and will exit intake air to the outside instead of putting it back through the turbo system (which will reduce strain on the turbos). This aluminum chargepipe is also much more robust than the stock plastic factory pipe and the connection to the throttle body is stronger, eliminating another failure point of the stock pipe.

In addition to the weak stock chargepipe, the factory N54 diverter valves can also be a source for boost leaks. The diverter valve takes overboost and re-directs it back through the intake and turbos instead of allowing it to pass into the intake manifold. It's the same as a blow off valve (BOV) but instead of releasing into the engine bay, it stays contained to the engine. The stock diverter valves (DV) are plastic and connect with more plastic into the chargepipe and turbo inlet pipes. The plastic can become brittle and crack even on stock engines and leak boost, which leads to a loss in power and performance.
Turbosmart has developed two kits to replace and upgrade the stock diverter valves - a direct replacement kit and a combination DV/BOV "Dual Port" kit (shown). This Dual Port Kit is a DV and a BOV together in one unit. An internal valve directs some of the charged air into the turbo inlets and the rest is dumped into the engine bay like a traditional BOV. The amount of boost released into the air is determined by an internal spring in the Dual Port unit (additional springs are also available). This allows you to custom tailor how much boost and BOV "whoosh" you hear. In addition to the DV/BOV combo, stronger silicone hose is included to connect them to the turbo inlet pipes (Vargas silicone inlets are recommended). This alloy hard pipe fits to the throttle body and incorporates our high flow Blow off valve. This new valve fresh from our R&D department is the largest displacement valve that Forge have ever made ! Featuring a 50mm (2”) aluminium piston so that there are no issues with split diaphragms, we have not found the power handling limits of this valve yet ! The piston uses heat stabilised viton o-rings and high temperature Mobil 1 grease to ensure a long life with minimal wear and very long service intervals.

In addition to the weak stock chargepipe, the factory N54 diverter valves can also be a source for boost leaks. The diverter valve takes overboost and re-directs it back through the intake and turbos instead of allowing it to pass into the intake manifold. It's the same as a blow off valve (BOV) but instead of releasing into the engine bay, it stays contained to the engine. The stock diverter valves (DV) are plastic and connect with more plastic into the chargepipe and turbo inlet pipes. The plastic can become brittle and crack even on stock engines and leak boost, which leads to a loss in power and performance.
Turbosmart has developed two kits to replace and upgrade the stock diverter valves - a direct replacement kit (shown) and a combination DV/BOV "Dual Port" kit. This direct replacement kit includes new high-performance DV and stronger silicone hose to connect them to the turbo inlet pipes (Vargas silicone inlets are recommended).
